Product care
This is a training and practice item, not a certified medical device. Do not rely on it as the tourniquet in a kit you expect to use for real. Only someone trained in tourniquet application should apply one. Applied wrongly or left on too long, a tourniquet causes serious injury. Call the emergency services immediately for any significant bleeding, and follow what the operator tells you. Inspect the webbing, stitching, rod and hasp before and after every practice session. Retire it if the webbing is frayed or cut, the stitching has pulled, or the rod or hasp is cracked. Store it flat, clean and dry, out of direct sunlight, which degrades webbing over time.
Full details

A windlass style compression strap built on the familiar pattern used in trauma kits, with a 36 inch nylon band that fits most adult arms and legs. The rod and composite hasp let a trained user apply and lock compression with one hand, and a red oval marker on the tail gives a clear visual cue when routing the band under pressure. The hasp design keeps working when the strap is wet.

Important: this is a budget training and kit filler item, not a certified medical device, and it carries no recognised approval. Anyone buying one should treat it as something to practise with or to round out a vehicle or range bag, not as a substitute for a certified tourniquet in a professional kit. Tourniquet use can cause serious injury if applied wrongly or left on too long, so seek proper first aid training before relying on it, and call emergency services for any significant bleed.

Sold in blue, black, red, green and khaki, with an aluminium rod option and two piece packs. Useful for first aid courses, cadet and scout training, airsoft and range days, and as a practice item alongside a certified unit in a serious kit. Fellmont Outdoors would rather be straight about what an item is than sell it as something it is not, and that applies to anything with the word medical near it.

What this is

Said plainly, at the top.

This is a **budget training and kit-filler item**. It is **not a certified medical device** and it **carries no recognised approval**. Buy it to **practise with**, or to round out a **vehicle or range bag** — not as a substitute for a **certified tourniquet in a kit you intend to rely on**. We would rather be straight about that than sell it as something it is not.

  • **No medical certification or approval**
  • **Training, practice and familiarisation**
  • **Not a substitute** for a certified unit in a serious kit

The build

The standard pattern, honestly made.

It follows the **windlass pattern used in trauma kits**: a **36 inch nylon band** that fits **most adult arms and legs**, a **rod and composite hasp** that let a trained user apply and lock compression **one-handed**, and a **red oval tail marker** as a **visual cue** when routing the band under pressure. The **hasp keeps working wet**.

  • **36 inch nylon band**
  • **One-handed windlass** with a composite hasp
  • **Red oval tail marker** for routing

Training first

The strap is the cheap part.

A tourniquet applied wrongly or left on too long **causes serious injury**. The thing that makes one useful is **training**, not hardware — a trained person can improvise; an untrained one can do harm with the best device made. **Get on a first aid course that covers catastrophic bleeding**, and **call 999 immediately** for any significant bleed.

  • **Get proper first aid training** before relying on one
  • **Call the emergency services** for any serious bleeding
  • **First aid courses, cadets, scouts, airsoft and range days**

It looks pretty good. I tried it on and turned it around to see how it's used. It tightens quite a bit. I released it immediately; I think for an emergency it will serve its purpose. Very easy to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a real tourniquet?
It is built on the standard windlass pattern and works mechanically, but it is not a certified medical device and carries no recognised approval. We sell it as a training and practice item. If you need a tourniquet you intend to rely on for life-threatening bleeding, buy a clinically approved one from a medical supplier - that is the honest answer and it has not changed.
So why buy it at all?
Practice. A certified tourniquet is expensive, and practising with it wears it out, which is exactly what you do not want to happen to the one in your kit. A cheap training strap lets you learn the routing and the windlass action properly, repeatedly, and keep your certified unit sealed and ready.
Where do I get the training?
Look for a first aid course that covers catastrophic bleeding - St John Ambulance, the British Red Cross and many local providers run them, and some employers will pay for one. A few hours of hands-on instruction is worth far more than any strap, certified or not.
What should I do if someone is bleeding badly?
Call 999 straight away and do what the operator tells you. Direct, firm pressure on the wound is the first thing nearly every protocol asks for. A tourniquet is a specific intervention for specific circumstances, which is precisely why it belongs with training rather than with a product page.
Which option should I buy?
For training it makes little difference - the colours are cosmetic and the aluminium rod option is slightly more rigid than the composite. The two-piece packs are useful if you are teaching a group or want one in each of two kits.
How is this different from the other tourniquet-style strap you sell?
They are similar products at a similar price, with slightly different lengths and fittings. Neither is a certified medical device, and the same advice applies to both: train first, buy certified for anything you intend to rely on.
