Safety Never look at the sun through the telescope. Permanent eye damage happens instantly
Product care
Never let anyone point it at the sun, and store it with the caps on so a child cannot pick it up and look through it at a bright sky. Supervise the first few sessions, particularly the tripod setup. Clean the lenses with a proper cloth and a blower rather than a sleeve or a tissue. Let it cool outside for ten minutes before use on a cold night; a warm scope brought into cold air gives a wobbly image. Store it indoors and dry, with the caps fitted.
Full details

Spark a lifelong interest in the night sky with this Fellmont Telescope for Kids. With three eyepiece magnifications of 20x, 30x and 40x and a 50mm objective lens, it gathers enough light to show craters on the moon, bright planets and distant landmarks clearly, which is far more rewarding for a child than a toy telescope that shows a blur.

The design is built for small hands. The shortened tube and wider barrel make it easier to line up a target, the focus adjusts smoothly, and the included tripod holds everything steady, so the view does not shake every time a child touches it. The head rotates a full 360 degrees horizontally and tilts through 340 degrees, so they can follow the moon or look along the garden without moving the legs. Adult help is useful the first time, mostly for setting up the tripod.

It works just as well in daylight for birds, boats, hills and wildlife, which makes it useful on holiday as well as in the back garden. It makes a brilliant birthday or Christmas present for curious children. Very important: never look at the sun through the telescope, as permanent eye damage can happen instantly. Seeing something real

Craters, not a blur.

The reason most children lose interest in a first telescope is that it shows them **nothing they could not see already**. A **50mm objective** with **20x, 30x and 40x eyepieces** gathers enough light to show **craters on the moon and bright planets** clearly — the moment that actually starts an interest.

  • **Craters on the moon**, clearly, on the first night
  • **Bright planets** and distant landmarks
  • **Three eyepieces** to step the magnification up

Built for small hands

The frustrating parts, designed out.

A long thin tube on a wobbly mount is almost impossible for a child to aim. The **shortened tube and wider barrel** make lining up a target far easier, the **focus adjusts smoothly** rather than sticking, and the **included tripod** means the view **does not jump every time they touch it**. An adult is useful the first time, mostly for the tripod.

  • **Shortened tube, wider barrel** - easier to aim
  • **Tripod included** - a steady view
  • **360 degree rotation, 340 degree tilt**

Daylight too

Not just a clear-night toy.

British weather being what it is, a telescope that only works on a clear night spends most of the year in a cupboard. This also works in **daylight on birds, boats, hills and wildlife**, which makes it something to take **on holiday or to a caravan** rather than a Christmas present that gets used twice.

  • **Birds, boats, hills and wildlife** by day
  • **IPX6** body
  • **A real present** rather than a novelty one

Seems ok for the price! definitely worth it. it does it's function for a child.

  • Rafaela Hoppe28 May 2026

Very good telescope. It's not professional equipment, but it does the job well. A good deal for beginners. The only downside is the lens, which is upside down, making adjustment a bit complicated.

  • Irwin Kilback31 March 2026

It's made of plastic, although it doesn't seem very fragile and will hold up to some extent; for the price it's worth it, I'm sure my daughter will like it.

  • Donovan Franecki27 February 2026

It arrived very quickly and well protected, with no defects. It does its job well; the image is not very clear, but for the price I am very satisfied and fully recommend it.

  • Kasie Willms21 February 2026

For the price, it’s a decent telescope..

  • Amos Schoen7 January 2026

The telescope is good, stabilization is difficult, but you can see the moon a little.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will my child actually be able to see?
The moon in real detail, with craters and shadow along the terminator - that is the one that gets a reaction. Bright planets appear as small discs rather than photographs. Stars stay as points of light however much you magnify them, which is worth explaining beforehand so the first night is not a disappointment.
Will it show galaxies and nebulae?
No, and we would rather say so now. A 50mm beginner telescope does not gather enough light for deep-sky objects, and the pictures children see online come from instruments costing thousands or from spacecraft. This is a moon, planets and landscape telescope, and it is genuinely good at that.
What age is it suitable for?
No age range is published. The design choices - short tube, wide barrel, included tripod - are aimed at children who can follow instructions and be trusted with the sun warning, which in practice means primary school age upwards with an adult nearby.
Does it need any assembly?
The tripod needs setting up and the eyepiece fitting, which is a five-minute job and worth doing with an adult the first time. After that a child can carry it out and set it up themselves.
What about the sun warning - how serious is it?
Completely serious. A telescope concentrates sunlight, and looking at the sun through one causes permanent, irreversible retinal damage in less time than it takes to look away. Never point it at the sun, keep the caps on when it is not in use, and make sure any child using it understands this before they touch it.
Can we use it from indoors through a window?
You can, but the image will be poor - window glass distorts the view and the temperature difference between inside and out makes everything shimmer. Take it outside, and let it sit for ten minutes before you start.
