Product care
Fit them to every guy line before the first trip rather than discovering you need them on a windy night. Check tension after rain and again as the fabric dries - that is when lines go slack. Seal the cut ends of any cord you use with a flame so it feeds through cleanly. Keep the spares in a small bag with your pegs; loose tensioners disappear into grass instantly.
Full details

Ten S type cord tensioners for tightening guy lines without tying and untying knots every time the weather changes. Thread the line through, pull to tension and the buckle grips; slide it back and the line releases. It is a two second adjustment with cold hands in the dark, which is exactly when a guy line always needs taking in and when knots are least welcome.

They fit the standard cord diameters used on tents, tarps and awnings, and will work just as well on a length of paracord you have cut yourself. Because the tensioner holds the line rather than a knot, the cord does not weaken at a fixed point or seize up when wet, and a line that has been soaked and dried stays adjustable instead of locking solid.

Use them on tent guy lines, tarp ridgelines, awning and gazebo cords, campsite washing lines, roof rack lashings and bike or boat covers. Four colours are offered, blue, black, golden and red, ten to a pack. Fellmont Outdoors suggests fitting a set to every guy line on a tent before its first trip, since the ones that come in the box are usually the first thing to disappear into long grass.

  • Pack of 10 S type tensioners
  • Adjusts guy line tension without knots
  • Fits standard tent, tarp and awning cord
  • Releases cleanly after rain, no seized knots
  • Colours: blue, black, golden, red
  • Cord not included
  • 10 pack S-type tensioners
  • 2 sec To adjust a line
  • No knots Nothing to seize when wet

The job

Guy lines need adjusting. Often.

Fabric stretches when it gets wet, slackens when it dries, and the wind changes direction at two in the morning. **Thread the line through, pull to tension, and the buckle grips; slide it back and it releases.** Two seconds, **with cold hands, in the dark**, which is precisely when a knot is least welcome.

  • **Pull to tension, slide to release**
  • **No untying and retying** in the wind
  • **Works with gloves and cold hands**

Kinder to the cord

A knot is a weak point.

Every knot concentrates load at **one fixed spot on the cord**, and a wet knot that has been loaded hard **seizes solid** and has to be cut. A tensioner **holds the line along its length instead**, so the cord does not weaken in one place and a line that has been **soaked and dried stays adjustable**.

  • **No fixed weak point** in the cord
  • **No seized knots** after rain
  • **Fits standard tent, tarp and awning cord**

Where else

More uses than guy lines.

Once you have a bag of them they end up everywhere: **tarp ridgelines, awning and gazebo cords, a campsite washing line, roof rack lashings, bike and boat covers**. Fit a set to every line on a tent **before its first trip** — the ones in the box are usually the first thing to vanish into long grass.

  • **Tarp ridgelines and awning cords**
  • **Washing lines, roof rack lashings, covers**
  • **Blue, black, gold or red**

Frequently Asked Questions

Will they fit my tent's guy lines?
They suit standard tent, tarp and awning cord, which covers most guy line supplied with tents, and 4mm paracord. No specific diameter range is published, so if you are using unusually thick or thin cord, check on arrival.
How do they actually work?
The cord threads through the S shape so that tension in the line pinches it against the buckle. Pull the free end to tighten, and push the tensioner towards the anchor to release. There is nothing to learn beyond that, which is the point.
Do they slip in strong wind?
Correctly threaded, the harder the line pulls the harder the buckle grips - that is how the design works. Slipping almost always means the cord has been threaded the wrong way round or is much thinner than the tensioner suits.
Is cord included?
No. These are the tensioners only. If you need line as well, 4mm paracord works well and we sell it in 31m, 50m and 100m hanks.
Why not just tie a taut-line hitch?
You can, and it is a good knot worth knowing. The practical arguments for a tensioner are speed, consistency, and that a knot pulled tight when wet often has to be cut off. Plenty of people use knots at the peg end and tensioners at the tent end.
Are the colours just cosmetic?
Mostly, though a bright colour is noticeably easier to find in grass when you are striking camp. Black disappears; orange and red do not.
